The Roslyn Packer Theatre (formerly the Sydney Theatre) is part of the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct and serves as the principal performing space for Sydney Theatre Company (STC). Designed by Andrew Andersons & Associates and opened in 2004, it was purpose-built as a world-class contemporary theatre with a focus on touring capability and technical flexibility.
The auditorium seats 850 in a steeply raked, intimate fan configuration. The stage is a large proscenium format with a full flying system, extensive overhead rigging infrastructure, and contemporary automation. The fly tower clears 27 metres above stage floor — one of the highest in NSW — and features 76 counterweight sets plus full automation packages. This makes it capable of hosting the most technically demanding international touring productions.
The venue's proximity to Pier 4/5 Wharf means bumping-in via Walsh Bay waterfront dock — a unique constraint that requires careful truck access planning. The dock area is shared with Sydney Dance Company and Bangarra Dance Theatre, both of whom are resident at Walsh Bay.
