Come on a dizzying & electric cross-cultural adventure! This is a truly exciting new contemporary production: it is bold, explosive, accessible for a broad audience & terrific fun.
Woven together with contemporary voices, electronic music, Japanese urban myths, anime, live DJ & boxing, HANAKO is driven by a young girl’s desire to write her own future.
It is based on a true story from 1902 of an American producer who turned a Japanese dancer, Hanako, into a star by getting her to die graphically on stage every night. Her death scenes were so extraordinary that they caught the attention of Auguste Rodin who sculpted more than 50 statues of her.
